Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)
Our Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) provide structured treatment for adults 18 and older who are experiencing mental health or substance use concerns that require more therapeutic support than individual outpatient counseling can provide.
IOP can also be an important next step for people who have completed a higher level of care, such as inpatient treatment, a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) or a Residential Treatment Program (RTP), but would benefit from continued structured support as they move forward in their recovery.
What We Treat
IOP can provide treatment for a wide range of mental health and substance use concerns, including:
- Drug or alcohol abuse or addiction
- Depression
- Stress and anxiety disorders
- Trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Mood disorders
- Personality disorders
- Mental health symptoms that occur alongside substance use
What to Expect
Brentwood Behavioral Health’s Intensive Outpatient Program provides structured, evidence-based therapy led by master’s-level clinicians. The program is designed to help you recognize and address unhealthy thoughts, emotions and behaviors while developing mindfulness techniques and positive coping skills.
Treatment takes place in an age-appropriate, small-group setting. Throughout the program, our compassionate, experienced therapists use a variety of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). The group setting can help you build self-awareness, strengthen emotional management skills and develop greater social awareness.
Group discussions may focus on topics such as:
- Coping with a mental health diagnosis
- Preventing relapse
- Understanding life experiences and their impact on behavior
- Recognizing and managing moods and emotions
- Identifying triggers and early warning signs
- Building communication and conflict-resolution skills
- Developing self-identity and self-esteem
- Identifying challenges and finding solutions
Depending on your individual needs and treatment goals, your therapist may also recommend individual or family counseling as part of your IOP treatment. Our licensed medical providers can also assist with medication management when needed. When combined with psychotherapy, medication management can help manage symptoms, support overall mental health and promote your recovery.
Groups meet daily for approximately four to six weeks. After completing the program, our clinical team will help coordinate follow-up care with appropriate community health providers to support your continued recovery.
How to Start
Finding the right level of care is an important part of addressing your mental health or substance use concerns. To determine the most appropriate treatment approach, we offer confidential consultation and assessment services to learn more about your physical, mental, social and emotional health history.
Assessments can be scheduled by phone or you can walk in. Our licensed, compassionate clinicians will work with our medical staff to recommend an appropriate plan of care and answer any questions you may have about treatment. If your needs are better addressed by a community health care provider, we’ll provide additional resources to help connect you with appropriate care.
Whether you’re seeking mental health or substance use treatment for the first time or continuing your recovery after another level of care, our compassionate team is here to support you with high-quality, personalized care designed to help you reach your goals and live life to the fullest.
