Child and Adolescent Programs
Expert, Compassionate Behavioral Health Care for Children, Teens and Families
Mental health challenges can affect children and adolescents just as they do adults. In fact, many young people experience conditions such as anxiety, depression, substance use concerns and other behavioral health disorders during their formative years. Early intervention can make a meaningful difference, helping prevent symptoms from becoming more severe over time and supporting healthy emotional development.
Our Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) trained clinical team at Brentwood Behavioral Health provides specialized, evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents. Through compassionate care and individualized treatment planning, we help young people develop the skills, confidence and support they need to thrive.
What We Treat
Adolescence can be a challenging time, and recognizing the signs of a mental health condition is not always easy. Symptoms may emerge gradually or appear suddenly, leaving teens and families feeling overwhelmed, confused or isolated.
We provide treatment for adolescents experiencing:
Our facility offers a safe, supportive environment where young people can focus on healing, build resilience and develop healthy coping skills that support lifelong well-being.
What Treatment Looks Like
Every child is unique, and treatment should reflect their individual needs. Brentwood Behavioral Health's multidisciplinary team specializes in adolescent behavioral health and works closely with families to create personalized treatment plans that address each young person's specific challenges and strengths.
We also understand the importance of education during treatment. Our team works collaboratively with schools, teachers and families to help students stay academically engaged and support a successful return to the classroom when treatment is complete.
For added convenience and accessibility, our program is available through secure telehealth services, allowing eligible participants to receive care from home.
Outpatient Treatment for Adolescents
Our adolescent behavioral health services are offered through an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) designed specifically for young people. Treatment may include:
- Individual therapy
- Group therapy
- Recreational and experiential therapies
- Medication management when appropriate
- Family involvement and support
The goal of outpatient treatment is to provide structured support while allowing teens to continue living at home and maintaining important family, school and community connections.
DBT Therapy for Children and Teens
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment approach that helps adolescents better understand emotions, tolerate distress, strengthen relationships and develop healthier coping strategies.
Our DBT-informed program includes:
- Individual therapy with licensed clinicians
- Structured DBT skills groups for adolescents
- Family participation and support
- Developmentally appropriate skill-building activities
DBT focuses on four core skill areas:
- Mindfulness
- Emotional regulation
- Distress tolerance
- Interpersonal effectiveness
These skills help young people navigate intense emotions, impulsive behaviors, relationship difficulties and other challenges often associated with mental health conditions.
DBT-informed treatment can be particularly beneficial for adolescents struggling with self-harm, suicidal thoughts, substance use, aggression, emotional dysregulation or impulsive behaviors. By balancing acceptance and change, DBT helps teens build practical skills that support healthier decision-making and greater emotional stability.
How to Get Started
The first step toward treatment is a comprehensive behavioral health assessment. During this evaluation, our team gathers information about your child's symptoms, mental health history, current concerns, strengths and treatment needs. We also provide guidance for parents and caregivers, helping families understand the treatment process and what to expect moving forward.
Assessments are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can be scheduled by phone or walking-in.
Following the assessment, our clinical team will work closely with your family to develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your child's goals, needs and overall well-being.
